The BLACKCAPS toured India in September and October 2016 to play three Test matches and five One Day Internationals, India won the Test series 3–0 and the ODI series 3–2. With BJ Watling, Luke Ronchi was wicketkeeper in both the Test match and ODI squads. BJ Watling was the wicketkeeper in the great majority of the tour matches.
In the three-day opening match of the tour against Mumbai on 16-18 September in Delhi, Luke Ronchi opened the batting and scored 107 off 112 balls in New Zealand's second innings of 235. The match was drawn.
In the first Test played in Kanpur on 22-26 September, Luke Ronchi scored 80 off 120 balls in New Zealand's second innings of 236. India won the Test by 197 runs.
Luke Ronchi took 2 catches in the warm-up match against Mumbai; and one catch (in the field) in India’s second innings in the second Test played at Eden Gardens. BJ Watling was the first-choice wicketkeeper. In the ODIs, Luke Ronchi took one catch in the first ODI; three catches in the second ODI (he reached 100 dismissals for New Zealand in this match); and did not play in the 4th and 5th ODIs.
Former BLACKCAPS captain Brendon McCullum, under whom Luke Ronchi spent most of his career playing under, described Ronchi as someone who, "embodied all that is important about the BLACKCAPS culture: “Selfless, respectful, humble and hard working.”

Luke Ronchi, born on April 23, 1981, in Dannevirke, New Zealand, is a former cricketer who represented both New Zealand and Australia in international cricket. Primarily a wicketkeeper-batsman, Ronchi made his debut for New Zealand in 2013 and later switched his allegiance to Australia in 2015, becoming one of the few cricketers to play for two international teams.
