Description

Photograph of Martin Crowe batting.

Martin David Crowe MBE was a New Zealand cricketer, Test and ODI captain as well as a commentator. He played for the New Zealand national cricket team between 1982 and 1995, and is regarded as one of the country's greatest batsmen.

He made his Test debut in 1982 and went on to become one of New Zealand's most prolific run-scorers. Crowe's crowning achievement came during the 1992 Cricket World Cup, where he captained the New Zealand team to the semifinals and finished as the tournament's top run-scorer.

Crowe's contributions to New Zealand cricket earned him a revered status, and his untimely passing in 2016 marked the end of an era for the sport in the country.
